More Trader Joe's Lovin and pictures!

It's just not the time to hunker down in Tarry and study forever yet. We just finished our second week out of 6 for this unit on musculoskeletal/head/neck. For the past two weeks, we learned all about your extremities, arm, elbow, forearm, hand, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, foot, on and on and on. This means practically everyday is spent in the anatomy lab learning all the 9923820180 parts. Brain overload.

Anyways, my weekly trips to Trader Joe's have involved me experimenting with the glorious food they have at the store. I have to fill a quota of one new item I have never tried to see expand my food choices. So far it has been amazingly delicious and successful.

Some examples (too bad i don't have much pictures):
1) Frozen tuna marinated in olive oils, lemon, garlic and other spice goodies.
Result: DELICIOUS. And so easy to make. Take the frozen fish, (defrosting it makes it drier) cook it on medium low heat for 10 minutes and each side, until it browns to a beautiful caramel color. Serve with rice and green beans, and full meal. SO GOOD.

2) Red Panang Tuna Curry Sauce.
Result: Man I was surprised how good this was. Just microwave half a packet and serve over rice, and there is a full meal right there. Love the spicy coconut sauce. And only $1.50 a packet! CHEAP AND DELICIOUS.
3) Trader Ming's Peanut Satay (Vegan!)
oh man. $1.99 a carton. No refrigeration necessary. Plus all you do is microwave and a full meal is right in front of you. This site gave it an awful review, but I actually love this stuff. Perfect for those days when you're studying in Tarry and you don't want to leave to grab a meal, which is exactly what I'm doing right now. It is a little greasy at the end, but still a quick and yummy meal.

4) Grilled chicken with lime
Pregrilled chicken where you just place over salads or add to meals that need some more protein (ie. the peanut satay above). Amy suggested this to me where it's easy to get your protein in when you want to grab a quick salad with meat. And man, ths $4.99 pack of chicken lasts FOREVER. You only use like 3-4 strips per salad, so it last a long time. Again, quick, cheap (due to the amount of food) tasty and so awesome.
5)Blu Italy with lime sparkling water
I HATE Perrier. I HATE San Pellegrino. Before I had this sparkling water, I abhored all sparkling mineral waters. It all tasted gross and salty to my palate. DISGUSTING. But when I saw these beautiful blue bottles on the shelf, I had to get one. Duh, if it's pretty, I must purchase. And I was so surprised with this water. You can drink it alone with the meal. Or add it with OJ and make your homemade Orangina. Perfect!
6) Veggie Corn Dogs
Now, now, I LOVEEEE corn dogs. The real ones for sure. I love microwaving it for 30 sec and then putting it in the toaster oven for a minute or two to brown to the perfect amount of crispiness. I was REALLY skeptical when Matt suggested the veggie corn dogs. I hate fake meat. It tries to be all real, but it can never be. But wait, this corn dog actually is REALLY GOOD. It has become one of my regulars to add to my cart each week. It's that good. I'm sure they lace it with crack or something.

I'll definitely put up more of my favorites online. Go to Trader Joe's! Get some good food!

Some highlights of what has happened in the past uh... 6 weeks? I thank Amy for most of these pictures.

I’d hate to come down to their level and become a BW

A basic woman.

LOL. Oh Klymaxx. I was talking to Judy tonight, and the subject of Klymaxx came up. Way back when, we were watching SNL together in McCoy with Kristopher too!! :-p The host was Halle Berry, and there was a skit that advertised the "Best of Klymaxx". We all thought it was a joke, but it wasn't! I think this band epitomizes the excess and frivolity of 80s music. Just watch their music video. What is up with her hair? What is up with the half naked man on like a crucifix dancing in a chair? WHAT IS UP WITH EVERY SECOND OF THIS VIDEO?!?

my ode to judy. how i miss you!

get this amazing mashup I found. It mixes MIA with Klymaxx. URAQT in the Ladies Room

Don’t slap me cuz I’m not in the mood.

*edit* song almost as good as the one before: "The Men All Pause"

I know I was lookin’ good
I had my Kenneth Cole shoes on
My Gianni Versace blue leather suit
My nails were done and my hair was fierce
And I was riding in a Cooper’s limousine
Don’t you want to ride

blue leather suit??!?!??! puahhaha. i want my hair to be FIERCE. this song is for that special someone. you know who you are.

Takes me back: It's No Good

So a couple of us went shopping today, and Amy and I really liked the song, Beware of the Dog by Jamelia which was played in Aldo. We were seriously distracted by the music and just wanted to dance to the music. It was that good. The song rips the sample off of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus.

Oh Depeche Mode. So dark. So painful. SO GOOD. This song totally takes me back to 1997. WOW. I just realized that's 10 years ago. I remember those days I would turn up Alice @ 97.3, and wait for my favorite songs to come up.I love the little jig Dave Gahan does in the middle of the song. His voice is so sexy.

the Shins!

So the fantabulous Jiyeon mentioned the Shins coming to the Congress theater last month. At first, I wasn't really that interested. I remember Tina introducing the Shins to me way back when, 2000? Oh, Inverted World was pretty good, but not life changing. Was still unfazed by the Garden State hype blah blah blah. Listened to their new album, Wincing the Night Away and I was blown away. I love this album, and it's one of my favorites so far this year in 2007 (next to the new Mika, Arcade Fire and Bloc Party albums...) Then I became totally excited to see the Shins.
Getting to the concert was such a struggle in 5 degree temperatures. It was such a relief to not stand too long in line outside the theater. My toes were seriously going to fall off. Anyways, we got their pretty much in time, which probably implied getting ok view of the stage. But due to the awesome luck, we found this pocket of the front row to the left of the stage. We were so close and got to see everything. Viva Voce was the opener, and they reminded me of an inverted White Stripes. A husband/wife duo with the guy at the drums and the girl with the guitar. They were pretty good, but the Shins were the best. Loved the entire set. I just wished they interacted with the audience more. Not enough talking! But yeah, we have the hots for the singer. Such dorky hot. Too bad he's married and has a kid. Sorry Jiyeon, you can't smack that. Can't wait for Bloc Party in March. They're coming to Congress also. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to that.

Too good to be true

wow. i haven't been this excited about a new artist in a LONGGG time. I've posted about Mika before and before. I finally got to listen to the entire new album, and it is AMAZING. I thought he wouldn't be able to make songs as good as "Grace Kelly" or "Relax (Take it Easy)" (which I heard in Club Moncaco the other day) but it's just amazing! I can't wait to get his cd (booo for the states getting it in March) and I hope he comes to Chicago to perform!!! And it doesn't hurt he's easy on the eyes either ;-).

This is one of my favorites on his cd, "Lollipop":sucking too hard on your lollipop, oh love's gonna get you down...

whoa. yesterday kristopher called me last night. and he and kendra are in town!! it was awesome to spend time with them yesterday and tonight. kendra has a interview here, and I hope she gets in!! obviously, the wife came along for the vacation, which is awesome. more people should visit chicago! too bad i can't show them around more. stupid CVRR exam!! must hunker down and study. btw, GO BEARS! WOOHOO!
